Question by Perseus: How many published authors or book writers are there in the UK?

Not self-publishing. Books with hard covers and lots of words. What % of the population are writers by success rather than by inclination.

I think that you'd need to talk to the Brittish library about that.
Steps:
1. Go to London
2. Take the Victoria Tube
3. Get off at the King's Cross stop
4. Find Library (near the gorgeous King's cross building)

Maybe they'll have an idea.
