The Internet is the most obvious example. Correspondence between businesses is made almost instantly and with very little effort.

You could go all the way back in time to the invention of the telephone if you want...

Perhaps a drawback is the sometimes exclusive nature of the "online storefront". If you're trying to do business and only have the Internet as means of contact it can make it more difficult to sell and explain your product or business. Or sometimes people would rather play Yahoo Games instead of doing real work on the Internet...
